Recording & Consent Notice
Last updated:
The Change Helper can keep a short audio recording of an exchange clerk stating an amount, so you have proof if you receive less. Recordings stay only on your phone, are deleted automatically, and where local law requires the clerk’s agreement, the clerk must tap OK before recording starts. You are responsible for recording lawfully.
1. What the feature does
When you use “Let the clerk say it” in the Change Helper, TourIts turns on the microphone so the clerk can say how much local currency you will receive. The app picks the number out of the speech and, where permitted, keeps a short audio recording as proof of what was promised. You can always type the amount instead; recording is never required to use the Change Helper.
2. Why a recording can help
Short-changing and “misunderstood” rates are common at tourist exchange counters. A short recording of the promised amount lets you calmly resolve a dispute on the spot. It is meant for your personal use in that situation only.
3. Consent and local law
Laws on recording conversations differ by country, and sometimes by region:
- In some places one participant may record a conversation they take part in (one-party consent).
- In others, everyone recorded must agree (all-party consent), or recording in business settings has special rules.
- For some countries the law is unclear.
TourIts keeps a country guide. Where consent is required or the law is unclear, the app shows the clerk a short explanation in their language and recording starts only after the clerk taps OK. If the clerk declines, do not record; type the amount instead.
4. Your responsibilities
- Only record conversations you take part in, openly and never secretly.
- Respect a clerk’s refusal.
- Use recordings only to resolve your own exchange; do not publish, share on social media or use them to harass or embarrass anyone.
- Delete recordings you no longer need.
- Check local rules if in doubt. The country guide is general information and not legal advice, and you remain responsible for complying with the law.
5. Where recordings are stored
Recordings are stored only on your device, inside TourIts. They are never uploaded to TourIts servers, never synced to your account, never attached to store ratings and never shared with other users. TourIts staff cannot access them. If you delete the app or lose your device, the recordings are lost.
6. Automatic deletion
Recordings are deleted automatically:
- after 7 days in countries covered by the GDPR (EU/EEA and similar regimes) and where the law is unclear;
- after 30 days in other countries;
- after 90 days for Plus and Pro subscribers, where the law allows longer retention.
The result screen shows the exact deletion date. You can delete a recording earlier at any time by deleting the check.
7. Speech recognition
To turn speech into a number, TourIts may use your device’s built-in speech recognition service provided by Apple or Google, which may process audio on the device or on their servers under their privacy terms. TourIts does not keep transcripts beyond the amount entered in your check.
8. Information for people being recorded
If you are an exchange clerk or business asked to consent: the traveller is using TourIts to keep a short private recording of the amount you quote, stored only on their phone and deleted automatically within 7 to 90 days. You are free to say no. If you have concerns about a recording, you can contact TourIts at [email protected]; because we never receive recordings, requests about a specific recording must be directed to the person who made it.
9. Contact
TourIts is operated by Liam Abu, an individual based in Israel.
